Qualia is built by Causal Map Ltd, a small UK company based near Bristol. We started Causal Map in 2020 to help researchers code, analyse, and visualise causal stories from qualitative data.

Collect then analyse

Qualia is the other end of that pipeline — a way to collect those stories in the first place, ready for coding and visualisation in Causal Map.

From StorySurvey to Qualia

The app started life as StorySurvey, for online surveys. When conversational AI matured, we rebuilt it around an AI interviewer and gave it a new name.

Steve has led research and evaluation projects in many countries over 25 years. PhD in psychology on post-traumatic stress after the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina. He started what became Qualia as StorySurvey, then rebuilt it around conversational AI.
